Opening the beta the first time

The beta isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS can't check it for you and asks you to confirm once. In this beta the app is called Moto Editor.

  1. Open the downloaded disk image and drag Moto Editor to Applications.
  2. Open Moto Editor from Applications. macOS says it can't verify the app. Click Done.
  3. Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security and scroll down to Security. Next to the message about Moto Editor, click Open Anyway.
  4. Confirm with Open Anyway and your Mac's password. From then on it opens like any other app.

If you're comfortable in Terminal, this does the same in one step:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Moto Editor.app"

To check the download wasn't changed on the way, compare the SHA-256 above with the output of shasum -a 256 on the file.
